Hollywood star Johnny Depp attended the San Sebasti\u00e1n Film Festival this week where he received a lifetime achievement award.<\/p>\n

The actor said that he is a victim of cancel culture and that \u201cno one is safe\u201d from the movement, calling on people to \u201cstand up\u201d for people facing \u201cinjustice\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be seen as an event in history that lasted for however long it lasted, this cancel culture, this instant rush to judgement based on what essentially amounts to polluted air,\u201d he commented ahead of receiving the honorary Donostia Award at this year\u2019s San Sebastian Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes one sentence and there\u2019s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It\u2019s not just me that this has happened to, it\u2019s happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Sadly at a certain point they begin to think that it\u2019s normal. Or that it\u2019s them. When it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em> actor lost a libel battle with a British tabloid that labelled him a “wife beater” last year when a London court ruled he had repeatedly assaulted his former partner, US actor Amber Heard.<\/p>\n

Johnny said that the Aquaman<\/em> star’s allegations were a “hoax”.<\/p>\n

However, in the aftermath of the libel trial, that actor said he was asked to step down from his role in the Fantastic Beasts<\/em> film franchise.<\/p>\n

Johnny later acknowledged that he was \u201cworried\u201d that his appearance at the festival this year \u201cwould offend people\u201d and that he \u201cdidn\u2019t want to offend anyone\u201d.<\/p>\n

He praised the event, its director Jose Luis Rebordinos, and the mayor of San Sebastian for their \u201cundying support\u201d and for \u201cnot buying what has been, for far too long, some notion of me that doesn\u2019t exist\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t done anything, I just make movies,\u201d the actor added.<\/p>\n
